Burns’ Big Bright Journey
James Burns has always had a creative flare; excelling at A-Level across different mediums and continuing his studies at esteemed Central Saint Martins. He has always had an appreciation for all types of Art and can often be found swanning between the Tates. During his Art Foundation at CSM, James applied for an internship at Bright.
Under the wing of our lovely Lucie Luddington, James helped assemble samples and provided agent support. During his 3-week internship James was introduced to how a creative agency runs. Bright encourages interns to engage in all aspects of the company, from Publishing, to Art Licensing all the way to Accounts. Bright is a collaborative environment and therefore it is important for each team member to understand and respect the work of others. James completed his 3 weeks as a “sponge”. He had listened, questioned and ultimately soaked up all he could. He was drunk on Agenting.
James returned to his face painting and vessel making at CSM but he had tasted Agenting in the creative services and he was hooked.
Bright is very much about people. Our primary focus is the people we represent and the people we help. We never move far from the ethos that anchors us: looking after our writers and artists while delivering the very best results for our clients. But in order to deliver those results and provide those people with the attention they deserve, we need the best team. So when we meet an A-team player, we look after them. MD Vicki saw potential in James during his internship and following his graduation invited him back to Bright as Studio coordinator.
James loved playing office: answering the phones, running to the bank and making tea. He was a good fit for Bright but quickly grew towards a role as an Associate Agent. Working alongside Lucie Ludds, James went to tradeshows, shadowed meetings and slowly built his own repertoire in the industry.
James is Bright’s very own success story. From intern to fully-fledged Agent, James now handles his own accounts across publishing, advertising, and digital media and speaks regularly at Cambridge University’s Masters events.
