A Book Launch to Remember: The Bear and the Piano by David LitchfieldBy Anne Moore Armstrong, US Creative Agent
What a splendid weekend in London celebrating the launch of The Bear and Piano by David Litchfield! This is his debut author/illustrated picture book featuring a most talented and beloved bear.
David’s publisher, Frances Lincoln Books chose the perfect venue hosting his book launch at Hatchard’s Bookstore at St Pancras Station where the famous piano sits outside the bookshop, just waiting for traveling passerbyers to play.
And play is certainly what Bear did! Men, women, children and even curious dogs stopped to watch Bear play the piano exquisitely… no wonder Bear played in Carnegie Hall as the book reveals!
Inside Hatchard’s, David signed his books to new adoring fans and sold out of all the copies on hand, a great beginning to a successful future! So far, the book has co-editioned in 6 countries including Korea, Germany and the US and is expected to do well in all foreign markets. David’s wife Katie and son, Ben were there to celebrate too, and Ben has now officially stolen the heart of the Bright Agency staff and seems to be showing signs of becoming an agent in the future, as he proudly watched over every aspect of the sales and promotion of his father’s book! After lunch, David made his way to a 2nd book signing venue — Book + Kitchen in Notting Hill where he and his young new fans enjoyed a yummy buffet of tasty snacks in their charming downstairs cafe. Not surprisingly, Bear serenaded everyone with more melodies on their upright piano, and the children were mesmerized again by this talented, friendly Bear! Amidst classic children’s books lining the walls, David read his new book aloud for the first time since it was published in early September.
It was a special day of picture book celebration — and we believe a new classic has been born as The Bear and the Piano is loved by both children and adults who discover its inspiring story of following one’s dream and belonging. Cheers and a big bear hug to all those who organized and attended these fabulous book events!
If you missed all the fun, there are plenty of signed copies of The Bear and the Piano at Book + Kitchen.
David will be reading his book at next month’s Storytime Sunday event on October 18th at The Doodlebar — come get a book and a big bear hug!
David’s next author/illustrated book featuring a very secret creature is already in the works with Frances Lincoln, so watch this space.
