The shortlist is in for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2014 and Bright are proud to represent a staggering 1/3 of the list! Yasmeen Ismail has been nominated for her energetic and inky book ‘Time For Bed – Fred!’ - the story of  Fred the dog who just won’t go to bed. It has been described as ‘A delightful bedtime book, destined to become a classic’. Our other rising star Nicola O’Byrne has been shortlisted for her illustrations accompanying Nick Bromley’s deviously funny ‘Open Very Carefully’ and has been described as a ‘…fantastic debut picture book’.

During Waterstones 10th annual Children’s Book Prize, here at Bright we are so proud of our artists as we ourselves celebrate 10 years of great business. This list proves we are a leading agency dedicated to nurturing, managing and launching unpublished talent and have always cared for big names as well as helped create them! Waterstones is one of the largest book retailers in the UK and has won various industry prizes including ‘Bookselling Company of the Year’. The recognition of Yasmeen’s and Nicola’s talented work from such a prestigious company really sets the tone for a new year of bigger and better business here at The Bright Agency.

James Daunt, the Managing Director of Waterstones has commented on this years award:

“It is with great pride that we embark on the 10th Children’s Book Prize. Our children’s departments have always been the heart of our bookshops, for there of course book lovers are made. In the Prize we capture the passion and engagement of our booksellers as they champion emerging children’s authors and illustrators.”

The winning books and authors will be announced on 3rd April when the category winners will receive £2,000 and the overall winner an additional £3,000. We wish the best of luck to our amazing Nicola and Yasmeen!
