Sue Hendra & Lee Wildish Collaboration Announcement
One of Bright’s shining stars Sue Hendra – who is currently the U.K’s 7th biggest author/illustrator – has recently decided to extend her best selling Hodder book character ‘Dave’ the farting cat (previously illustrated by Liz Pichon). For the next installment of this furry greedy guts, Sue will be teaming up with another of Bright’s top illustrators, Lee Wildish – who was the overall winner (with Andrew Wheale) of the Red House Children’s Book Award 2013 for Spooky Spooky House and last year reached #8 on the New York Best Sellers list, securing himself a place amongst the elite of the Illustration industry. Hodder Picture Book Publisher, Emma Layfield comments ‘We are so thrilled to bring together two of the biggest creatives in the picture book world to continue the bestselling Dave series. Sue Hendra and Lee Wildish are both hugely (and deservedly) successful separately and Dave will be a winning combination of their talents.’
Our proud Managing Director, Vicki Willden-Lebrecht also had an insight into the exciting collaboration : ‘Sue & Lee have had mutual creative respect & admiration for each other as they have grown through the ranks of Bright. Together they have earned the global respect of children’s publishers and for them to work together on a potential brand/series character is a dream opportunity for them both. As Bright represents both the author and Illustrator on such a high profile book, taking part in festivals, events and PR will be centralised and this active roll in audience connection gives the brand potential to reach further.’
“I am truly delighted to be working with Sue and Hodder Children’s books on the Dave series. It will be a great project and fun too. Very exciting. Meow!” Lee Wildish
“I’m very excited to be working on a new Dave story. It’s about time he got his second wind.” Sue Hendra
The new book deal is with Hodder & Stoughton, Publisher Anne McNeill and Picture Book Publisher Emma Layfield. We look forward to keeping you updated with news on this fat cat!
