Rebecca Elliott’s Author Illustrated Series Success in USA!
2015 kicks off to an amazing start for Bright rising star Rebecca Elliott, as she attains a monumental order for her written and illustrated Owl Diaries series with Scholastic USA. Although this will be Rebecca’s first Author Illustrated series in the US, the rising star has been building momentum in the UK throughout 2014. Her illustrated Christmas book, Happy Hooves Oh Oh Oh!, with new publisher Fat Fox Books was both featured as a Christmas present for Prince George and it had it’s very own stand in Harrods!
Last November, Rebecca also made an appearance on BBC Radio 2 alongside nationally loved & publicly acclaimed Clare Balding, OBE. The interview, which took place in the last half hour of the show, focussed on Rebecca’s publishing inspiration as she tackles delicate ethical subjects such as disability and death. Rebecca’s author illustrated series for Scholastic builds on an impressive picture book career where she is the author and illustrator of Lion Hudson’s stand out series Just Because which features her own children, Clemmie and Toby. Rebecca had also illustrated and written successful titles for Bloomsbury and Templar before she began to work on the Owl Diaries with the team at Scholastic USA.
Later this year, you can catch Rebecca at one of the Guardian’s exciting Master Classes where she shares her tips on writing for children. This one-day exclusive event for 16 lucky creatives and will teach any aspiring author illustrator how to make the most of their ideas and realise their dreams!
Through a series of talks and practical exercises, Rebecca will guide you through the journey from turning a few scribbled notes and scrawled doodles into a rich and entertaining to story, to putting together a portfolio and submitting your work to publishers. Along the way, you’ll build a toolkit of essential writing skills, including pacing, structure, characterisation and editing, to ensure your stories will bring joy to children time and time again.
Following Rebecca’s successful addition to The Guardian’s ‘How to draw…’ illustration column on the site last year with her How to draw a SUPERHERO from Mr Super Poopy Pants (Lion Hudson), we have no doubt that anyone aspiring to illustrate and write would gain a mountain of experience from Rebecca’s exclusive Guardian Masterclass this April!
Bright is extremely proud of Rebecca as it looks like 2015 is shaping up to be another knock-out year! Click below to read more about her brand new author illustrated series with Scholastic USA.
