Welcome Back, Alli!

Cheers, children’s publishing world! I’ve returned from a wonderful three-month maternity leave and I’m thrilled to be back among the children’s book community. I’m hitting the ground running this month: meeting with clients, recruiting new artists, and developing work with our already existing roster of exceptionally talented authors and illustrators.

It’s been an amazing and exhilarating six months in my life, joining Bright Group USA in April and having my baby boy, Rhys, at the end of May (on BEA’s opening day, to be exact!). Talk about life-changing events!

This summer, in addition to being elbow-deep in diapers, onesies, and baby kisses with Rhys, I’ve also been reading a ton of kid’s books with my 3-year-old son, Alex. Some of our new and old favorites: We Are in a Book!, by Mo Willems; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, by Judith Viorst and Ray Cruz; One Word From Sophia, by Jim Averbeck and our very own Yasmeen Ismail; Ally-saurus & the First Day of School, by Richard Torrey; and The Tale of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrix Potter.

Mid-August brought us to London to visit two of my families: my Bright family and my husband Ed’s family. Bright’s annual Summer Picnic in Wandsworth Park was a highlight of the summer for all of us: I got a sneak preview of the new Bright Emporium, met my UK colleagues, and chatted with some of our wonderful artists. Alex and Ed got to revel in a lively game of Rounders. And Rhys was passed around to many willing sets of arms, but declared agent Nicky Lander’s the most comfortable: he slept peacefully for a full hour while she held him! We all ate loads of sandwiches and sampled Vicki’s amazing homemade cakes. The rest of our week in London was spent traipsing around, seeing what we could see. Some highlights were the Science Museum, the Cutty Sark, the planetarium at the Royal Observatory, and riding at the top of a double-decker bus.

Now that I’m back, I’m really looking forward to meeting clients, working with our artists, and helping grow Bright’s burgeoning US business. To schedule a time to view the latest Bright portfolio, please contact Alex at alex@brightgroupinternational.com.

I am also in the process of building my personal book of talent, and as such it’s an extremely special time for new artists to join Bright USA. New illustrators will have the rare opportunity to benefit from all of Bright Group’s resources, alongside virtually undivided agent attention. If you or someone you know is seeking representation, I’m looking for artists who can tell a story through images; depict different perspectives; render interesting textures, shadows, and light; create unforgettable characters; and show a sense of humor and emotion.

What an awesome time it is for me to be a part of this groundbreaking talent management agency, delivering top-notch work to our clients and helping our artists attain great success.

See you soon!
